# Enterprise data platform: trusted consumption architecture

**NR-005** · Reference model · v1.0.0 · Reference / illustrative

## Architecture problem
A lakehouse can centralize data but does not automatically reconcile definitions, ownership, identity, historization or business processes.

## Apply when
- Enterprise reporting across ERP, CRM and operational systems
- Building a shared semantic layer for finance or go-to-market metrics
- Preparing governed data products for analytics and AI

## Not intended for
- Treating bronze/silver/gold as universal ownership boundaries
- Using a dashboard definition as the enterprise master data model
- Assuming AI readiness follows from data centralization

## Design rules
1. Source contracts and ingestion health are observable.
2. Business keys, history and reconciliation are explicit.
3. Semantic products have named owners and approved definitions.
4. Access controls and lineage span ingestion through consumption.
5. Data quality is measured against decisions and downstream use cases.

## Trade-offs
- Flexible raw ingestion is valuable, but defers transformation discipline.
- Central models improve consistency but can become bottlenecks without domain stewardship.
- Near-real-time pipelines add cost and operational complexity over scheduled batch.

## Review questions
- Which system is authoritative for each business entity?
- How are ARR, customers and contracts reconciled across domains?
- Can a business user trace a KPI back to source records?
- What is the acceptable freshness, quality and recovery objective?
